Thank You Dr. Oz & Dr. Phil

While I am in the midst of reading all of my fellow Word Press Writer’s Blogs for today I am heavily bombarded by pop ups from either Dr. Oz or Dr. Phil.

They are both advising me on how to lose weight by burning my excess fat.

http://doctoroz.sharecare.com/

http://www.drphil.com/

Now that I am about 120 lbs. at 5′ 8″ I am 10 lbs. under weight.

Where were you when I weighed 185 lbs. and could have used your advice?  Oh, that is right, you were not rich and famous yet.  I had to do it the hard way.

Eating right, changing my diet, exercising, working several jobs at a time, being a single mom, taking care of two daughters….

Sorry that I just do not appreciate your pop up ads right now.  I am sure that you mean well.  Even when I answered your survey,  hoping to find a way to be healthy while I maintain my weight or slowly gain a few pounds to get to my optimum weight, I received numerous emails from both of you urging me to lose more weight and purchase food products to do so.  To purchase your books and diet plans to lose even more weight against the advice of my physician.

Who am I going to listen to?  Two famous TV doctors?  Guess again…

I am taking the advice of my own family physician who reads my blood tests and sees my x-rays on a regular basis.  She is the one who knows what my prescriptions are, my blood pressure is and has been the one to give me all of my physicals.

Thank you as you might help a few people who really need you and do not have a family physician.  I feel that is the first place anyone who does have their own physician should start.  With someone who knows their body.  Not with a system who does not know what makes them tick inside.

Have a nice day,

What do you feel about this as readers?  Does this happen to you or am I just a lucky one?

Would love to hear from you and your opinion on this matter.

Daily Prompt: Comedy of Errors Making Pasta

Daily Prompt: Comedy of Errors (and bonus assignment!)

by michelle w. on February 27, 2013

Murphy’s Law says, “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.” Write about a time everything did — fiction encouraged here, too!

Bonus assignment: do you keep a notebook next to your bed? Good. Tomorrow morning, jot down the first thought you have upon waking, whether or not it’s coherent.

The one and only time that we have tried to make pasta, I forgot what pasta was all about the first time through and tried to make it with Gluten Free Flour.

Nice option to baking

Nice option to baking but not pasta making

The second time of trying we used regular flour and used a YouTube Video…I think he had a few too many glasses of wine… the pasta was way too thin and had holes.

The third attempt got us as far as making the dough from a recipe that my hubby’s friend gave him.  By then, my kitchen looked like a tornado had gone through it and the mess was incredible.

4354413748136Pdrying rackattachments ravioliclock tickingIt was late at night and we were both exhausted… I ended up just doing dishes with hubby’s assistance and going straight to bed.  Tossing the dough into the trash.

Perhaps another day I will try again…when I am feeling brave.

Perhaps I might even consider just leaving it to Barilla

Perhaps Barilla Pasta is not such a bad way to go sometimes…

Here are what others had to say on the subject of Murphy’s Law Days…have you had that type of day?  Would love to hear.

Kicking My Allergies One Step At A Time

I had been researching pasta machines since September when I did not receive on for my birthday.  I decided that I did not need an electric one (although it would have been nice) and that I could get all of the attachments and come under the cost of the electric one if I went with the hand crank one.

I went to http://www.walmart.com to make my final purchase as they were the cheapest and offered free shipping if my order was over $100.

If you love pasta, then you’ll adore the Weston 01-0201 6 Inch Manual Pasta Machine. With the adjustable, 6-inch rollers, you can have almost any thickness of pasta you want to make for any occasion. A double-cutter attachment means you can make both fettuccine and spaghetti, while easy-to-follow instructions help you along step by step. The included recipe booklet keeps the machine fresh year after year.

About Weston Dedicated to every aspect of the food chain, Weston gives customers what they want and what they need. From house ware products to specialized tools, Weston understands that food is the most important element of our lives. That’s why Weston commits itself to the preservation of nutritional value, efficient output, and quality products. If you want the best in home food equipment, look no further than Weston.

I also bought attachments…could not resist

These are from Bed Bath and Beyond  I did not purchase these only got the ones from Walmart that I would use specifically as they sold them separately and not all together like BBB.

I had to go to http://www.amazon.com  to find my drying rack and a good cookbook to go with my machine.  I was pleased to find a Weston Drying Rack at Amazon for $9.99 so that was really reasonable.  I will be making my lasagna for Christmas with Gluten Free Flour.

drying rack

For $9.99 it is easier than the flour surface and takes up less room as I am at a loss for space. I always prefer to go to Amazon when I am looking to price compare an Item.

That was my goal to be corn free and gluten free with my lasagna before Christmas.

I have frozen several batches of homemade spaghetti sauce that I made from the vine tomatoes that my roofer brought me so I am good to go with my sauce.

Now to conquer the battle of the cheese.  That will be at least an hour in the store with my list that I was able to get from  http://www.cornallergens.com/food/corn-free-cooking-baking.php that I take with me when I shop.

The actual list if you do not want to go through the entire website is located here

http://www.cornallergens.com/list/corn-allergen-list.php

I actually discussed my corn allergy the other day when purchasing insurance to find out that my new insurance agent has just found out that she also has a corn allergy along with several other allergies.  She also thought for the longest time that she was just losing her mind and was perhaps becoming a hypochondriac since no one else around her seemed to be bothered by the same allergies that she had.

She stated that a huge weight had been lifted off from her shoulders by my talking and sharing with her.  I hope that by spreading the information that I have obtained around and others sharing with me that the world will be better equipped to help us survive our allergy one day at a time and one step at a time.

Thank you for reading.
