Daily Prompt: I have been touched by strangers

Daily Prompt: Stranger

Have you ever had a random encounter or fleeting moment with a stranger that stuck with you?

The delivery of baskets yesterday was just one day of  many that we have had for https://www.facebook.com/Mikefest2013?fref=ts
Not only do we have Businesses who want to be vendors at the festival.  We have businesses who have other commitments and will not be joining us that day.

The donations this year are incredible.  Despite everything going on in the world, kindness still does exist.
I have felt an abundance of kindness and caring from people that I have met, friendships that I have made that would have never have happened otherwise.

Taking the time to sit and hear each of their stories of how they got into business, their health problems that they have been through that have brought them to the place where they want to give back.  It has been priceless.

I am just a mere penny in a fountain.  When you add all the pennies together though you do have a wish that has come true.

Help from just one day

The rest have already been delivered as we ran out of room.

Thank you and a list will be made very soon of all of the Donations that were made besides the participating Vendors.
With only a few more vendor spots to fill and just 12 more days to fill them we are confident that this is going to be a great year.

Wounded Warrior Sgt. Keith Hale and His Family were the recipient for the Mike Fest 2013.  If you would like to be a part, let us know.

Would love to meet you and get to know your story also.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Hard-rock bands from the Nashville and Clarksville areas will perform at the fifth-annual Mikefest on Saturday, May 4, to raise money for Sgt. Keith Hale and his family.

The outdoor event, at 3825 Old Dover Road North in Woodlawn, just south of Fort Campbell, will feature several hard-rock bands from the Nashville/Clarksville areas.

Bands confirmed to play include: Mindset Defect, Killing Grace and Transcend the Fallen.

Although admission is free, donations are accepted, and all proceeds will go to Sgt. Keith Hale and his family. Hale was wounded in Iraq during June 2010.

Several vendors will be selling food and drinks, and raffles and live music will be provided for crowds to enjoy during the festival.

Each year, hundreds of people attend to show their support for local music and businesses and America’s troops. This is an all-ages festival, and families are welcome. Violence, gang colors and drugs are strictly prohibited.

Mikefest is a free, annual event created by Byron and Melissa Russell in remembrance of Michael Charles Russell, who passed away during their vacation while on a ride at Disney World, due to a non-diagnosed heart condition. Rather than mourning Michael’s passing, they now celebrate his life by remembering him through this fundraiser, which benefits a different charity each year.

“Since the passing of our son, Michael, in 2006 we have received a tremendous amount of support from the Clarksville, Fort Campbell and Woodlawn communities. So in 2008, we decided to stop mourning his loss and celebrate his life with local charities each year,” the Russells said.

Weekly Writing Challenge: Person, Place, Thing

Person is Sgt. Keith Hale.
This is a little about SGT Keith Hale, the recipient of this years Mikefest donations. Thank you for writing this TiAnna – MRSGT Keith Hale joined the Army after 9\11 to stand up for the country he loves.
He has been married to his wife TiAnna for 10 yrs and they have 3 amazing kids Zach, Kaley and Nathan who is autistic.
Keith 1st deployed with the 1/115th Shelbyville in 2005 for 15 months to TQ, Iraq, where he was a scout truck driver.
His 2nd deployment was with the 278th HHT RFS to Mosul, Iraq and was now a truck commander for the scout truck (scout trucks go out in front of the convoy).
Over the deployments there were many close calls.
In June 2010, he was having some issues with dizziness and vomiting but he would push through to continue the mission.
On June 5th, they were coming into FOB Spiecher there was a wreck and a lot of confusion.
He fell from the back of the MRAP and received a brain injury and spinal nerve injury that caused damage to his right leg.
He still carries the nickname deadleg.
He still has many uphill battles, medically speaking, but will continue to soldier up.
SGT Keith Hale medically retired on February 27th 2013.

Vendors for non-food spots are filling fast so if you were interested in this, do not put it off or you will only be able to submit a basket and will not have a vendor spot.
Each year this has grown.  The function was just featured in Clarksville Now:

Daily Prompt: Idyllic Community

Daily Prompt: Idyllic

What does your ideal community look like? How is it organized, and how is community life structured? What values does the community share?

I must sound like a broken record on this one.  Were we are located gives us a touch of the country while being right next to Clarksville, Tennessee and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky so we have the best of both worlds.  Till I woke up this morning.

We have snow…what is this?  It is New York State weather.  Not normal Tennessee weather.  I borrowed these pictures from a friend who took them last night and this morning.

We are not supposed to have hail dropping on our daffodils.

What is up with snow?  Yes I know we can still see the ground but the black ice is incredible.

While Clarksville and Woodlawn area offer all the schools, hospital and shopping that one needs, not to mention places to eat and visit…oops I just did lol.

Ft. Campbell is a city within itself.  It has it’s own schools, hospital, shopping, restaurants and things to do.

The community where we are is small and quiet.  When our dog Trina was frightened and ran away for a day, the community came out to help find her.  People actually stopped to ask if we were looking for a child.

She came home just as it got dark (she is afraid of the dark and was hungry.  First thing she did was check her New Box of Milkbones to make sure they were still there.

What is your perfect community?  Do you live in it now?  Would love to hear…

New Local Advertising Site

New Site: Fort Campbell, KY, Clarksville, TN, and Hopkinsville, KY, Buy, Sell, Tradehttp://www.facebook.com/Eman.The.Tupperware.Man#!/groups/548935008468517/

Fort Campbell, Clarksville, Hopkinsville, Buy, Sell, Trade

  • Promote your business / self here and let people find your businesses and services all togetherI made this group for people at Fort Campbell, Clarksville, TN and Hopkinsville, KY area to BUY SELL and TRADE or even give away items…

I will not do like some other local sites do, and have my item always prominently posted at the top. (Last Person to Post) gets top spot.

I see a lot of other local groups did not include Hop town, well we did.

Not a lot of rules just use common sense, be courteous, no illegal items, no profanity. This is a family site.

If you have tons of items you want to list, try putting them into file/album, and posting them that way, I know not every person has that capability, but try.

Nothing turns a person off than a whole page of item, with your profile picture on them.

Try to post your business / items once a day, and bump the next day, this way viewers can quickly go through this site, without seeing the same items again and again.

For Businesses, MLM and Entrepreneurs, I ask you post your item once a day and then bump it in 24 hours. No need to flood the site with a whole page of whatever you’re selling, it’s a turn off when people see that.

That’s it for now. If anyone has any suggestions, please contact me.

    Thank You, and have fun…

    Emmanuel

Tennessee Sky At Night

Just as it started to become dusk I decided to follow the yard and take pictures randomly… I do not claim to be a photographer and I am only using a Casio Exilim Camera so this is what I came up with to describe my back yard besides peaceful.

We really need to call power company out here because this beacon of light guides the helicopters from nearby Ft. Campbell, KY on their flight path…

Where the sun is setting is Ft. Campbell, KY and is just across the highway which our tree hedge totally hides…

Just shortly after the sun has set and here is the same shot…

Now the animals are all getting ready for bed…

Present and accounted for since it is now dark out…

Even DC comes in to terra cotta floor at night…

Hubby…goes where it is cool…

I burned a citronella candle so he does not get eaten alive…

Namaste,

Tammye Honey
