Daily Prompt: First Light is a Cat in my face

Daily Prompt: First Light

by michelle w. on February 28, 2013

Remember when you wrote down the first thought you had this morning? Great. Now write a post about it.

Every day when I wake up, I have a cat staring me down or kissing my nose to wake me to feed him.  My first thought is “Time To Make The Donuts”

It is always the same routine every morning.  I let the dogs out and feed the cats.  Give fresh water in two bowls, then I am allowed to make my first cup of coffee.

We have had the same routine for almost 4 years here and TC and I have had that routine for a very long time.  He was not my cat originally but found his way to my side of the house each night to sleep on my pillow and would wake me to eat each morning.

My landlord never knew how he got over on my side, I did, but never told on him.

CIMG0006He is about 15 now so he gets his way all the time.  The routine will stay the same as long as he is around.  The past few days have been difficult as I have been down with a series of migraines.  Hopefully, they have ran the course and life is looking up…or into the face of a cat.

What was your first thought this morning?  Would love to hear…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Forward

Weekly Photo Challenge: Forward

by michelle w. on February 22, 2013

Recently, I was lucky enough to visit the Alhambra, the majestic hilltop Islamic palace that commands the skyline of Granada, Spain. Intricate stone pathways meander through the grounds, drawing you deeper into the lush gardens and millenium-old buildings.

Stone PathwayPlayful yet insistent, I went where the paths beckoned, marveling at walking on the same stones as 12th-century emirs, trying to feel the history through the soles of my shoes.

I was struck not just by the time and craftspersonship that went into creating these miles of paths stone by tiny stone, but also by the way the designs pulled me forward and urged me to keep exploring, even as my feet begged for a respite.

In a new post specifically created for this challenge, share a picture that says FORWARD to you.

Perhaps it’s a path you yourself have taken, the building where you’re starting a great new job, or the curve of your partner’s pregnant belly. It could be an image that shows a physical move, or something that evokes a major life change. We look forward (ha!) to your interpretations.

We have moved forward after the storm to a stronger roof and are putting the pieces back together.

Our entire neighborhood is working together to clean up the mess.  Trees down all over and damaged properties that insurance did not cover.  The community is helping to cover the difference.

What have you had in your life that has made you move forward?  Let me know.

Daily Prompt: Normal Means? Are we Far From Normal?

Daily Prompt: Far From Normal

Many of us think of our lives as boringly normal, while others live the high life. Take a step back, and take a look at your life as an outsider might. Now, tell us at least six unique, exciting, or just plain odd things about yourself.

: perpendicularespecially : perpendicular to a tangent at a point of tangency
a : according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle

b : conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern

: occurring naturally <normal immunity>
a : of, relating to, or characterized by average intelligence or development

— nor·mal·i·ty  noun
— nor·mal·ly  adverb
  1. We are when we are not sleeping and are up and walking.
  2. We definitely have a set pattern to our daily life.
  3. Our lives seem to occur naturally.  We go with the flow of the day.
  4.  a; We both have college degrees.  That seems to almost give us average intelligence.   b.  Still in debate on this one
  5. Do not think this is applicable in our situation.
  6. When we do not have trouble with our ears, we seem to have our balance.
  7. Life does seem to flow quite nicely.
  8. Once I figure out what this one was really saying in normal terms I might be able to answer it.

Normal is always in the eye of the beholder.  What is normal for one family is different for another.  Our days of running the children to school, practice, rushing home to make dinner, doing homework, giving baths, etc. are over.  Now our pets determine what is the normal routine in our home.

What is normal in your life.  Do you see a different normal in 5 or 10 years?  Leave me a comment and tell me.

Thank you for reading.

Daily Prompt: Call Me, Maybe

Daily Prompt: Call Me, Maybe

by michelle w. on February 5, 2013

Describe your relationship with your phone. Is it your lifeline, a buzzing nuisance, or something in between?

Since moving from New York State to Tennessee, I have left friends and family.  I am in daily contact with my friends back home and am able to at least text my family who are busy working every day to tell them that I love them.  It is nice that at even 7:30 AM my time, my foster daughter can call me and tell me she is upset that she has to go to a funeral of a best friends mom who passed away from Cancer and she knows I will answer and talk to her.  Verizon to Verizon.

I am guilty of playing the game Draw something with a family member back in New York all day long on my phone.

Thank goodness we have wifi throughout the house and I am connected to that so I am not using my actual telephone rates.  My phone usage is minimal, which keeps our bill way down.

samsung ohone

We use my new phone to use the square up for customers to be able to make purchases in the store.

square up1

This is a nice new feature which again is on wifi so we are still at a minimal cost with the telephone company.  With this feature, our customers can use their debit or credit cards and save their cash for the grocery store or gas stations.

It has also increased our sales potential in the store quite a bit.

square up

A neat little square that I just plug into my phone when I need it then swipe away. When I am finished, I just unplug.  The receipt goes to the customers email and I save on paper.

As far as using my telephone for anything else besides a camera, there is really nothing else that it is used for at the present time.

It would be nice to be able to find my voice mails a little easier than what I have to go through to find them lol.

Hope you enjoyed reading my blog and daily prompt today…

Daily Prompt: Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes,They are Scary

Daily Prompt: Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

by michelle w. on February 4, 2013

You need to make a major change in your life. Do you make it all at once, cold turkey style, or incrementally?

Cold TUrkey

That is an interesting question to answer and I think it really depends on what you are changing.

When the doctor told me that there had to be no more alcohol in my life that was an easy choice when I started to take the blood pressure medication.

The beer that I liked was only available back in New York State, Labatt Blue which is not available in Tennessee.

I really was never very big on mixed drinks and they never liked me very much so giving them up was a good idea…

What went down seemed to visit right back up.

So yes this was cold turkey mode…

Now as for quitting smoking…I have gone the cold turkey mode for several years and have found myself right back at it…

quit smoking

I tried the gum, then went to try the Chantix till I read the side effects and went running back to the Doctor for another solution.

medication bottle

This time she has come up with an alternate solution that is a cold turkey with a helper.  So we shall see.

I need to get organized.

Running so many businesses out of our home makes that a little difficult.  That is partially why my office looks the way it does.

Certainly not this bad

Hubby has recently moved indoors for his office so he is upset that he can’t use his office to it’s full potential.  Spring will be here soon.

Then perhaps we can make more changes to our lives for the better.  What changes do you have planned for this year?  Would love to hear your thoughts on them
