Writing 101 Day 7 Give and Take or The Revolving Door

writing-101-june-2014-class-badge-2

Write a post based on the contrast between two things

Our cat T. C. is an old “Garfield” in his color and attitude.  He has managed to lose some weight since moving to the South from the North since he can go out during the Winter months and get some exercise as well.  His food sits on top of the washing machine so that our dog Peachy will not eat every last morsel in existence.  He is more than capable of jumping from the floor to the window to the dryer and then walking to the washer.
However, upon arriving into the house, his presence is announced loudly and constantly until he is picked up and placed on the washer next to his dish.  He will sit there and stare at the dish until I have taken my hand and have stirred the dish of dry food several times.  I must then open the sealed container of food and grab a slight hand full and add to the batch and stir again.
He will then nibble for a few minutes.  Just as I am back in my office he will make his presence known again and will either want to be petted or will want to go out.  Once in a great while if it happens to be a stormy day I will hear the childrens piano in the spare bedroom playing and I know that he has decided to take a nap.
When the dogs are fed, he is the first at their dishes to help himself to the bits in the “Kibbles and Bits”.  Then the dogs are allowed to eat.  The dogs will look at us as if to say help!…

Cats rule and dogs drool….

He has a pattern of going in and out all day.  He knows that if he sets off the front door alarm it triggers in my office and I come to the front door.  As I approach the front door I find him sitting there as if asking what took me so long.  He nibbles on some food and is right out the back door to lounge in the sun for a nap in nice weather.  Unless that was just a potty break.

You might be wondering why we tolerate this annoying daily routine.  The reason is because he is somewhere between 15 and 16 years old.  We know that we do not have that much longer to enjoy his company.  His snuggling into bed with me on my right side while the dog Trina is tucked tight against my back on my left side.

About twice a day he insists that Trina groom him so he will walk under her and continuously butt her head until she begins to groom her.  It always happens so fast that I am never near a camera to record.  One of these days I will get it on record though.

That is the contrast in our lives that has blended well.  Perhaps someday he will decide whether he wants to be out or in lol.

Daily Prompt: Giving Thanks For What I Have

Daily Prompt: Keeping up with the Jones’

Tell us about the one luxury item you wish you could afford, in as much detail as you can.
Paint a picture for us.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us COVET.

IMG_0002

I am really happy with what we have.
I can not think of anything that I would covet that someone else has.
We are semi healthy for our age.
We have two healthy dogs and a cat.
We are happily married now for almost 5 years.

We own our home (Have a mortgage but who doesn’t these days?)
We live in the country but are not far from the city.
We live in a wonderful neighborhood

We have a lot of comfort features in life.
(Dishwasher, Microwave, Washer, Dryer, Big Screen TV, Internet, Computers, WiFi, etc)
We work our businesses from our home and in our jammies most of the time.
We are blessed with healthy children and many grandchildren.
We have several wonderful kind friends.
We have heat, running water and food in fridge and freezer as well as the pantry.
We have clothes in our closet.

What would we want that we could add to that?  More Money?
Perhaps that would be nice.  Then we could pay off our Mortgage early.
The payments are made each month so we are happy.

I ask my readers, what would you want that you do not have?

Enlighten me please with a comment…

Be careful what you wish for…

Daily Prompt: The Cat Allergy Man

Daily Prompt: FAQ

Interview someone — a friend, another blogger, your mother, the mailman — and write a post based on their responses.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us DETAILS.

2013-11-14 09.59.31 2013-11-14 09.59.28

My hubby came in this morning and announced that the runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing was from the new kittens.

I asked him what made him sure and his reply was that he had been up all night doing research on the subject.

(It is true that his reaction began the day that the kittens arrived and has been continuous)
I asked what some of the hard evidence facts were to support his case.

His reply was that he could not venture out into the store area without having a full blown sneezing attack.
He has gone through two boxes of tissues in two days and all of the allergy medication does not seem to help.

I find it odd that the dander from these two kittens could be so severe that he is having this reaction, yet we have had cats the entire time that we have been married.
Is it that we have closed up the space due to the kittens and it just needs to air out?
Is there something in their fur that is causing the reaction that if bathed would cease?
Should I just call the previous owners and explain the situation?

2013-11-14 09.58.16

Is this something that will go away with time, or will it worsen as the days go on?

I realize that something has to be done, now I fear his having a heart attack from sneezing so badly.
He would not allow me to photograph him for this interview since he is such a mess.

Time will tell, and I am going to call the previous owners.
I compared his situation to my being in a movie theater full of popcorn lovers.
Now he understands what I go through.

Perhaps God just wanted to show him so that I would not hear “It is not that bad” anymore.

Daily Prompt: The meaning of love

stop by and see us

What does love mean to you?

by Scott Berkun on August 5, 2011

Topic #210:

What does love mean to you?
We talk about love all the time, but rarely do we sit down and think about what it is.
How our behavior helps us get more or less of the kind of love we desire.

How does platonic love differ from romantic love?
How does the love we get from a parent differ from the love we get from a friend?
Or a dog?
Is love a feeling or a set of behaviors?

This topic suggested by Timmer at Timmer’s blog.

There are so many forms of love.
Truly love should be unconditional no matter who or what it is directed to.

Animals love unconditionally no matter who their owner is.

There are a lot more variations of love though:

Daily Prompt: Trick or Treat…Is Your Light On?

Daily Prompt: Trick or Treat

by michelle w. on October 31, 2013

If bloggers had their own Halloween and could go from blog to blog collecting “treats,” what would your blog hand out?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us TREAT.

2011-scary-halloween-pumpkin-ipad-3-wallpaper,2560x1920,ipad-3-wallpaper,522

Will your light be on for the trick or treater’s who pass by your house this year?

Will you be like a few of my friends who turn all of their lights off and pretend like they are not home so that they do not have to open their door?

I have often asked those friends why they hide in their homes and do this, as they give to a lot of various charities so I know it is not about the money.

Their answers are all about the same… “I just do not like this season”.

It seems that there must be an easier way to handle the situation than become a prisioner in your home and reading by a flashlight so that no one will know if you are home or not.

I also have several friends who are on the other end of the spectrum and plan for an entire year for this day.  They have an elaborate yard with special effects that are not too spooky for the little ones.  They are also the friends who decorate for Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as several other Holidays…

Since we live way out in the country, we have only had one year where we had two children who stopped and visited our home.  They were really happy that they did too…

We took all kinds of pictures, gave them a ton of candy and really made a big deal about their costumes and how great they looked.  Sadly they moved.

If you are visiting my blog then I will give you a treat…

1452017_453543581433143_120735369_n

Stay safe this Halloween and please keep your animals inside where they will be safe…

Check the childrens candy as there are some sick people out there or just go where you know the people…

Check to see what is going on in your area that is inside and safe… a lot of malls are putting on functions as well as fire stations and Churches.

If using candles in your pumpkins please watch where you place them and be sure that if they get knocked over that a huge fire will not be started.

When Is A Vacuum Not A Vacuum?

Weekly Writing Challenge: The Best Medicine

  • Write about a sad or particularly difficult situation you faced, and find the levity in what happened or how you dealt with it.

If life were perfect, cats and dogs would not shed.
Carpet runners would not collect the fur every time they run past them.
My hubby would not require a surgery that we have to wait to get in for.
I would not have fractured two fingers on my left hand.
Hubby would not have PTSD.
Hubby would not think my vacuum sounds like engines of a fighter jet.

Put them in a jar and shake them up and you have a sticky mess.

One napper, four shedders and two fingers that do not want to be helpful later, you can see my delimma.

I try to quietly sweep.  It picks up two small cats twice a day yet does not seem to help.

When he used to drive to go somewhere I would celebrate by dragging out the vacuum and have to empty twice per room.

The birds love me.  All the nesting material they need in one stop shopping.
They have until the lawncare people come to mow the lawn again to use all the materials for their nests.
Since it smells like our cats, you would think that they would not want to use it at all.
Perhaps it is to throw the cats off the trail of new babies.

Daily Prompt: No Rolling Stone Here

Daily Prompt: Rolling Stone

If you could live a nomadic life, would you?
Where would you go? How would you decide?
What would life be like without a “home base”?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us TRAVEL.

We happen to know several couples who own an RV (Recreational Vehicle) and travel back and forth from each of their childrens homes across the United States.
To constantly be in a trailer, mobile home or what ever you want to call it is not what lifestyle I would ever want.
Granted, they have no mortgage (unless they owe on the RV) and only have to pay for car gasoline.
They do not have to pay property taxes, just for the license of the RV.

I think that it takes a certain type of person, one who loves camping to live like this.
To always be on the road and traveling.  To stop at various cities and not know anyone.
It is a special type of person who really enjoys this lifestyle and would not buy a home again.
Sometimes it is all about the ability to keep up the home.  (Although, you have to maintain an RV also).

I prefer to be able to walk into my own back yard and take my doggies (and kitties) for a walk.
When I walk them it is all four of them.  The cats do their duty at the same times as the dogs.
The dogs love being able to play in the neighbors hayfield and the neighbor does not mind either.
He says it looks like our dogs are patrolling their property and they feel safer because of it.

I like having roots here and a place where my children could come to visit if they wanted to for a vacation.

I love the weather in Tennessee, especially in the Winter.
While locals think we are having terrible weather or temperatures,  I am enjoying not having snow to my waist.
