Daily Prompt: The Cat Allergy Man

Daily Prompt: FAQ

Interview someone — a friend, another blogger, your mother, the mailman — and write a post based on their responses.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us DETAILS.

My hubby came in this morning and announced that the runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing was from the new kittens.

I asked him what made him sure and his reply was that he had been up all night doing research on the subject.

(It is true that his reaction began the day that the kittens arrived and has been continuous)
I asked what some of the hard evidence facts were to support his case.

His reply was that he could not venture out into the store area without having a full blown sneezing attack.
He has gone through two boxes of tissues in two days and all of the allergy medication does not seem to help.

I find it odd that the dander from these two kittens could be so severe that he is having this reaction, yet we have had cats the entire time that we have been married.
Is it that we have closed up the space due to the kittens and it just needs to air out?
Is there something in their fur that is causing the reaction that if bathed would cease?
Should I just call the previous owners and explain the situation?

Is this something that will go away with time, or will it worsen as the days go on?

I realize that something has to be done, now I fear his having a heart attack from sneezing so badly.
He would not allow me to photograph him for this interview since he is such a mess.

Time will tell, and I am going to call the previous owners.
I compared his situation to my being in a movie theater full of popcorn lovers.
Now he understands what I go through.

Perhaps God just wanted to show him so that I would not hear “It is not that bad” anymore.

Bad Experiences With Side Effects Of An Allergy

Simply walking into a room and taking a few pretzels from a bowl to eat.
Adding mascara to my eyes.
That is all that it took.

Inhaler, allergy meds, they did not help.  A small amount of relief but not totally.  I did not want to do the epi pen.

When do you decide enough is enough and give in and see a doctor?

Left eye swollen to the point where it was almost shut.
Itching across the abdomen.
This all started on Saturday.

By Monday, with no signs of improvement, the doctor was called.

Feeling like I was being dragged behind the truck, I went in to the doctor’s office to get a shot.  Now I had pain in two places.  His suggestion was to place a hot pack on my eye to reduce the swelling so I could at least see out of it.  I had been doing ice packs prior as a home remedy.

I came home, took a new Dish towel that I had just washed and dried and attempted to sew up all the sides, leaving a small opening on one end.  I turned it right side out and proceeded to fill it with long grain rice.  I then sewed up the opening and placed it in the microwave for four minutes.

From there I headed to bed.  My hubby was amazed that this little project worked.

It is wonderful.  It was something that I had at home.  I did not have to stop anywhere to make a purchase.  It was quick and easy to make on my sewing machine and I had instant relief.

The trick is to not over fill the bag or it will burst.  Do not heat over four minutes in the microwave or you will burn yourself.

For more information about corn allergies here is some insight:  http://tammyeandhubby.wordpress.com/about-corn-allergies/ and also at http://tammyeandhubby.wordpress.com/about-corn-allergies/how-to-rule-out-an-allergy-to-a-food/

If this information can help even one other person from having to go through the week I have had, it is well worth sharing.

Benadryl has Corn Syrup in the liquid or Corn Starch in the capsules so before you reach for that for relief…read the information.

My best to all.

Kicking My Allergies One Step At A Time

I had been researching pasta machines since September when I did not receive on for my birthday.  I decided that I did not need an electric one (although it would have been nice) and that I could get all of the attachments and come under the cost of the electric one if I went with the hand crank one.

I went to http://www.walmart.com to make my final purchase as they were the cheapest and offered free shipping if my order was over $100.

If you love pasta, then you’ll adore the Weston 01-0201 6 Inch Manual Pasta Machine. With the adjustable, 6-inch rollers, you can have almost any thickness of pasta you want to make for any occasion. These are from Bed Bath and Beyond  I did not purchase these only got the ones from Walmart that I would use specifically as they sold them separately and not all together like BBB.

I had to go to http://www.amazon.com  to find my drying rack and a good cookbook to go with my machine.  I was pleased to find a Weston Drying Rack at Amazon for $9.99 so that was really reasonable.  I will be making my lasagna for Christmas with Gluten Free Flour.

drying rack

For $9.99 it is easier than the flour surface and takes up less room as I am at a loss for space. I always prefer to go to Amazon when I am looking to price compare an Item.

That was my goal to be corn free and gluten free with my lasagna before Christmas.

I have frozen several batches of homemade spaghetti sauce that I made from the vine tomatoes that my roofer brought me so I am good to go with my sauce.

Now to conquer the battle of the cheese.  That will be at least an hour in the store with my list that I was able to get from  http://www.cornallergens.com/food/corn-free-cooking-baking.php that I take with me when I shop.

The actual list if you do not want to go through the entire website is located here

I actually discussed my corn allergy the other day when purchasing insurance to find out that my new insurance agent has just found out that she also has a corn allergy along with several other allergies.  She also thought for the longest time that she was just losing her mind and was perhaps becoming a hypochondriac since no one else around her seemed to be bothered by the same allergies that she had.

She stated that a huge weight had been lifted off from her shoulders by my talking and sharing with her.  I hope that by spreading the information that I have obtained around and others sharing with me that the world will be better equipped to help us survive our allergy one day at a time and one step at a time.

Thank you for reading.
