Daily Prompt: How much info is too much?

Should You Let the Cats Out of the Bag? Blogging About Family and Friends

let-the-cat-out-the-bag

Here are a few suggestions that the Daily Prompt gave to use before you put yourself and your family out there into public viewing.  It may not be what you say but what someone else shares and comments on after that actually does the damage to the family relationship.

  • What if it were me? If you were reading your closest friend’s blog and saw a similar story about you — perhaps something you hadn’t shared with others yet — how would you feel? (What’s that; your closest friend doesn’t have a blog? Why not?)
  • If I were telling this story to a group of people, would I share these details? Picture the real-life equivalent of your blog readers: you’re at a party talking to a group of people, some you know well, some less so, some not at all. You’re telling the story. Are you okay with those to whom you’re less connected hearing it?
  • Am I talking about children? My children? They’re not in the same position to assert themselves and ask not to be mentioned; that goes double for other people’s children.
  • You’re browsing Facebook and see that someone’s shared the post with less-than-positive commentary; how do you feel? Do any protective instincts kick in? Blogging isn’t just about what you share, but how others run with that. Are you comfortable if someone takes the story and sprints in the other direction?
  • If a prospective employer or partner found the story, would reading it hurt your friend’s chances? This is unlikely, especially since you’re probably not using your friend’s full name with loads of identifying details; the underlying question is whether the story puts your loved one in any kind of compromised position. Whether or not they’re identifiable, it’s probably not ideal.

Lots of stories are fine to tell — the hilarious story about the UPS mixup your cousin told you at Thanksgiving probably doesn’t impact anyone, except maybe the UPS man. In other cases, it’s worth thinking through the what-ifs.

These ideas really sounded like a great foundation to keep peace and with the Holidays coming up and silly things possibly happening around the table perhaps this will stop a war in 2014.

If you are not sure if it will not keep peace in the family, here is my advice to you…

Some things in life are worth biting your lip and keeping it zipped.  Unconventional love does not always mean what we think.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this matter….leave me a comment and let me know what you think about this subject…

Do you agree or do you feel differently and why?

I am listening…

Daily Prompt: Confrontation or Peace

Daily Prompt: Fight or Flight

When faced with confrontation, do you head for the hills or walk straight in?

Since I really do not care for conflict, I take a walk to calm down then come back.
That way, I face the challenge with a clear mind.
Then I am rational to be able to think clearly.
That way, I do not say something that I do not mean.

Was there ever a time you wished you’ve had the opposite reaction?
When I am at the end of my rope perhaps.
When it has been a repeating problem.
That has not been properly resolved.

How do you deal with confrontation?
Would love to hear.
Leave me a comment and let me know.

Your Words, Choose Them Wisely

603872_472916049446383_1179158025_n

You were not thinking when you spoke today.
The thought process caused you to go astray.
Your point was taken, yet you continued to say,
Hurtful words in a cold and meanless way.

You were not thinking of how others would feel.
You were Hell bent to get across your appeal.
To have said what you meant in a kinder fashion and deal,
Might have taken thought and a bit of  being real.

To touch a heart, to be warm and show compassion and caring,
Might be a new perspective, bold and perhaps daring.
Using tact is sometimes gold, and so worth sharing.
It does not leave scars, and does not need repairing.

The damage is done, we can’t turn back time.
Perhaps you will learn from my little rhyme.
If you hurt someone, perhaps each time you should pay a dime.
I would be on a beach in Costa Rica eating a lime.

Before the words leave your mouth, please think twice,
Perhaps what comes out might actually be nice.
By causing others pain there is nothing to gain but lice.
The point is not taken, not even by mice.

Perhaps someday, you might find yourself all alone.
Your words will have caused others to become stone.
They will not hear or care if you want to moan.
You will be alone upon your throne.

Heed my words as I do love you so.
In lifes journey we still have far to go.
If it is to be with me you need this to know.
To be kind is the seed that you must sew.

This is only written with love in mind.
Hopefully you will understand this in time.
It was not meant to be cruel or just make a rhyme.
It was to point out that love is important to share and find.

Look to God for help in all matters so dear.
He is right there standing by just waiting to hear.
Ask him for guidance to help you with what you fear.
Perhaps if you do the attitude will clear.

Daily Prompt: Wake Up Call

Daily Prompt: Dulled

You encounter a mysterious man offering you a magic potion that, once sipped, will make one of your senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch) super sharp — but dull the others. Will you sip it, and if so, what sense do you choose?

For an extra challenge, link your response to this prompt

As the original was written, I decided to go with a fictional story to intrigue the senses.

Shelly was a young girl by some standards, yet old by others.  She had lived a unique life, most would never know.  She was a loner, a stranger to even those who knew her.  When she met Jake, she had felt like she had drank a magical potion.  She felt alive again.  She felt a part of herself that she did not even know had existed.  She awake in the morning and was excited to start each new day.  She could hardly wait to see what new adventures they were going to explore.

The senses that had awakened in her were ones that are deeper than the basic five.  She suddenly had felt alive again.  She was feeling emotions that she had not encountered in many years of her life.  Emotions of joy, happiness, laughter, a feeling in the heart where there had been a void.  With these feelings, she had also found a dark side of Jake.  It was a side that she was not sure of and not certain how to cope with.  Jake liked to drink a lot of vodka.

They were well into the marriage before the secret began to unfold and come to light.  She was now faced with a dilemma.  What would she do.  Would she stay and hope for just the happy days to try and stay as much as they could.  Were there going to become less and less of the happy days as the dark side took over his life?  She did not believe in divorce.  She was so many miles away from home.  She could feel the sadness slowly creeping into her veins like a poison lurking in the night.  Slowly pouncing upon each shred of happiness that she had found that had brought her back to a happy place and had made her feel alive again.

She had tried to talk to Jake about the dark side to only get the answer “I know” each time.  When she would ask if he was going to get help or wanted to try to make a go of it.

She was at a crossroad in her life.  At a place that she did not like.  She had to make a decision.  She had to do something or be sucked into the black hole of  despair that she had walked into once before to become a walking zombie.  Just an existence.  Not able to feel emotions, not able to express any feeling or compassion.  Feeling totally numb about life.  She could feel herself slowly slipping back there again.

Jake had the ability to make her laugh.  When he was not preoccupied and was not drinking, he could make her so happy by just making her laugh.  There had been a time when they watched tv and cuddled.  How she had longed for that now.  How he used to want to dance while she was cooking and he would sweep her off her feet, just for a brief few minutes, as they would dance closely then she would carry on with dinner. They always danced to the same song that he sang in her ear or played on the stereo.

She had come to resent Smirnoff Red Top and felt as if it were a “Red Head” that he was cheating on her with.  In a way, she was right.  It had cheated her of a perfect marriage.  It had cheated her of a life of love and happiness.  It had stripped away the joy and had brought tears and sadness in it’s place.  It had stripped away the sexual desires that had once been there.  They came with less and less frequency as well.

She had felt as if she were living in a huge balloon that had a small pin prick in it and the air was slowly being seeped from it.  She felt no desire to be with another man.  It was certainly nothing like that.  She truly loved Jake with all her heart.  The decision to stay and suffocate or leave and breathe was what she had to sleep on.  When she was to awake she would have her answer.  She would pray about it for a week and each night she would try to cleanse her mind of all thoughts of the day as to not tarnish her decision.

The week was over, as she made preparations to get ready for bed she knew her decision would come that next morning with an answer from God.  She again prayed and as she layed down to go to sleep, she again felt that same calm and peacefulness that she had not felt for a while.  She felt as if she had again drank from that bottle of magic potion.
